Spinnin' at The Duck...
Wow that was a beat down. My legs feel like jelly. I think did about 49 minutes but my avg hr was 160 bpm. Tomorrow will be a rest day for sure. Friday is a run day followed by ride on saturday. Thinking about doing the super bowl ride on sunday morning but haven't decided.

Feel Like Runnin'...
RUN
For some reason i really feel like running today. I will do my normal run/walk after work today. i have to beat my 1.39 miles in 20mins.
BIKE
I will try and make it to the spin class at the duck tomorrow. Work will be the deciding factor.
SWIM
i will start a masters swimming program in february but in i decided i will not stress the pool thing because i after i join the masters program i will be up at 5:30am going to the pool. joining a group that you have to pay dues to will be the only way i will get my swim distance up.

Saddle Sore...
Let's just say my nether-regions aren't ready for the ironman. Many cyclists use many things to reduce the friction caused by riding on a bike seat for so long. some use chamois-butt-r, some use bag-balm. what does dominator use... good ole fashioned vaseline. for me nuthin works better. it's water proof so even in the rain it protects.
enough about that. I decided today is a rest day and that tomorrow i would go for a run on the treadmill after work so what's on the iPod?

Happy 44th Anniversary Mom n Dad...
Happy 44th mom and dad. that is a long time!!!
I rode at the mad duck ride this morning and let me tell you i felt GREAT. I was on the moots travel bike again. my saddle was a little sore from the ride i had yesterday but it wasn't a distraction. I think we did 26 miles. I think because i did a little road ridin' trickery.

I reduced the size of my wheel on the cycle computer. the net effect... it show's i'm going slower than i really am and i am riding a shorter distance than i really am. it's like adding time to your clock because you're constantly late. I did it because i need to think i am slower and my distance is shorter. that way when it's game time i'm all good.

Surface Hippy...
If you needed some motivation look no further than this guy Micheal Montgomery he finished an ironman 6 months after a hip replacement. Anyways, I rode about 22 miles today on the moots and it felt great. I think the running is helping for sure. Tomorrow i plan on doing the Mad Duck coffee ride. I don't know how my nether-regions are going to feel after tonight but i'll give it try anyways. I have updated the workout site with my current stats and i will try to keep it more up to date after each workout.
I will swim one day this week before friday but i haven't decided which day just yet. i am thinking monday but we will see. this is a short one for now.

2nd Run/Walk...
RUN
I did go to the gym today. I ran 1.37 miles in 20 minutes. My knees and ankles
are quite beat down. but they are getting stronger. i hope to be able to run for an hour straight before the ironman. If any of you have a good run/walk program (melissa???) then please share.
SWIM
i will be starting with a masters group for swimming sometime starting in mid february. so that means i will be waking up at 5am to be at practice at 6am to be at work at 9am. that will make for a long day but... that's the stuff that makes a Dominator. in the meantime i am committing to at least 1 visit to the pool a week.

I will be riding the moots this weekend. (yes i do have 2 moots) the road bike is what i'll be on. If i do ride the mountain bike i will call it the YBB on the blog. so when i refer to the Moots it will be the road bike. It's going to be in the 50's-60's this weekend so that will be nice.

T minus 5 months to go...
Didn't do much today. i was thinking about swimming but wasn't going to stress about it. I will either be going to spin class and The Duck or i will be going to run/walk at 20-foe fitness. either way i will be on it. My mind is much clearer now that i spent a week to just concentrate on work. It's so crazy how that works. Seeing as how i didn't have a full time gig in over a year starting a new job was way more stressful than i thought.
I also bought a tri-newt light (@ The Duck thanks Clarence) to light the way at night when i need to put in 3 hour rides after work and i get off at 6. Me and River Legacy will be getting to know each other very well pretty soon.

Martin Luther King Day...
I Just wanted to say Happy MLK. what does this day mean for me? I feel it's a day we can all just get along. Put aside our racial, religious and cultural differences and hate people for all the right reasons: Like terrorists, jerks and a-holes.
I had today off. I haven't ever worked MLK day and i hope to never have to. However what is really important for me on MLK day is to work on my dream. Right now i have 2 things that i am working on. One is a project i hope will be financial successful and the other you ALL know is to finish my Ironman.
I'm baaa-aaaack.
Dominator is back baby!!! I spent the week trying to get my mind right. I still dream about finishing my ironman and having my family and friends there cheering me on. My weight will be prohibitive for me running effectively however i know i can train using an effective run/walk plan and get through it just fine. so i'm no longer freaked out about it.
On that note i upped my run today. i decided that since i know for a fact my marathon will be a planned run/walk. i just need to increase my time gradually. so today the new benchmark is how far in 20mins.
1.25 miles in 20 minutes
I will be posting my stats on the workout page sometime this week. That's it for now. Hope all of you had good MLK day whether you have it off or not.

Blog Pause...
I am going to take a weeklong break from the blog. I am going to concentrate on getting my mind right this week. I plan on starting the blog back up t-5months to go on the 22nd. I decided to take mental rest and concentrate on clearing my mind for now. I spent this weekend doing that and i feel much better for it. starting a new job is more stressful than i imagined it would be.
I just want to tell everyone that i won't decide to quit unless that is the only option. i also want to say that if i decide to continue i need to find a support group of others in the metroplex training for the same race. I will actively search those out if i decide to continue training. I want you to know that i appreciate all the support and phone calls i recieved this weekend. and i appreciate all of you that have been reading this. till next week.

Woke Up Late...
I am resting this weekend as i mentioned before. I just got off of the phone with christie. i think she's the first person that put the crazy idea of people doing triathlons in my head. I remember her showing me pictures of her doing the escape from alactraz triathlon and me thinking it was cool. but it wasn't until that night lying in bed after knee surgery that i decided that it was something i could do.
I have been talking about it for so long and now that it's here my mind isn't ready for the commitment. that is what i am doing this weekend and however long it takes. i have to get my mind right. the body does what the mind wills it to do. without that mental focus i am good for nothing. so, my readers it's with that that i close tonight. that is where i am and i just wanted you to know.

Crisis of Commitment...
I had no idea what kind of commitment starting a new job was. Mentally I am exhausted everyday and the last thing i want to do is go the gym for any reason. My mind just isn't right right now. After talking with Calisa I decided that March 8th will be the deciding day as to whether or not you should buy your tickets to idaho this summer. that is the day of the annual athens, tx sprint i do every year. if don't have my mind and training right by then it's pretty much game over.
Trust me when i tell you that i want to game up for this. I want to be serious and i want to be motivated but i just am not. Since i started training in earnest at the same time i started a new job i feel mentally mashed up. training isn't fun it's just one more thing to worry about. this should be fun. i should want to ride and swim and run. This isn't the end but i do know i will be taking a mental and maybe physical rest this weekend. I want to at least want to train again. the sad part is i am not even to hard part and i feel this way.
just to be clear. i am not going to stop training i am just going to try to make it the least stressfull as possible. till tomorrow.

Resting...
Today was a rest day for me. Tomorrow i should be heading back to the [cess] pool. Not much happening. Trying to make better diet choices and planning meals better. Eating salads and chicken. I will let you know you how everything is going.
Job is still eating up a lot of my focus and motivation right now. I can't wait for more daylight so i can do more workouts in the morning. It's hard for me to get going when it's still dark outside in the mornings.

Whales Can Swim...
I did swim today. I am really tired and will fill in more info tomorrow. Swam about 500 meters in about 27 minutes. I sprinted the last 100 meters though. When i got the pool my goggles were missing so i went for my backup pair. to my horror they were at the bottom of my workout bag's pocket covered in lotion. not just any lotion. old dried up caked on greasy lotion. so i spent 10 minutes trying to clean those. After all of that i still couldn't see anything they just made it to where i wasn't getting water in my eyes.
The pool water smelled like crap. you stick you hand in let it dry and smell it. it should smell like clorine. it shouldn't smell like clorinated poo. after all of that i just wanted to get in and go home.

Bike: 0 (this weekend looks promising)
Run: 0 (monday or this saturday will go back to the treadmill)
Diet: out of the refrigerator all day but not going well. the problem with breakfast is speed. i need something high protein that i can just pop in the microwave and go. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I will shoot for 800 next time. Not in the typing mood just now so hopefully i'll say more tomorrow.

Nuthin Happenin...
Dead day for the most part. Resting from the riding i did this weekend. Still dreading swimming tomorrow but i will do it. Swimming is so boring. It's like being in an isolation chamber. You can hear, see, feel, smell or taste anything but water. I tried the underwater ipod case but the headphones blew out and over 30 bucks a pop they don't sound good enough to justify it.

Assless Bike Shorts...
This dedicated to Ice Mocha Frap Chrisanator. Dude wiped out at the same spot as martin (the dude that did the supa'man last week). "Supa'man then ohhhh" from the song. I didn't see the Chrisanator do the supa'man i just saw the results...assless bike shorts. the shorts combined with the hot pink jersey he was wearing makes you think he's getting ready for a trip to san fran... Not that there's anything wrong with that ;-) On a serious note he looked like he'll recover alright. he's just gonna need some new shorts.
I felt pretty good on the ride today. yesterday's mountain bike ride had little effect on todays "coffee" ride. The coffee ride is a casual ride that's anywhere from 20 to 45 miles depending on the route. today i did 20 miles. it would have been 26 if i had showed up on time. I woke up at a quarter to 9 and 9 is when the ride starts. so i had to drive the route quite a ways to catch up the them. they are all really nice people and they waited for me unload my bike when i caught up to them. luh u guys (no homo, not that there's anything wrong with that)
Iron Byron provided some need motivation today and encourged me to make sure i don't sluff off workouts and even if i get planar fasciitis or knee pain i can always speed walk the marathon. Tomorrow evening will be a rest day but tuesday is swim day NO MATTER WHAT.

Unseasonably Warm...
Dude... It's warm out there. 75 and sunny in the winter? Gotta love TX. Anyways, my back is feelin' better. I will be going on a mountain bike ride today at river legacy. go down 2 loops and come back. that puts me at about 12 miles total and i finish it in about an hour.
I do plan on doing the mad duck coffee ride tomorrow morning so if you want to see the dominator that's where i'll be. With the weather the way it is right now unless i am paralyzed i'll be riding.
I am dreading swimming on tuesday. but unless i make myself start i never will. I am planning on swimming 800 meters (half mile) or 30 minutes which ever is longer.
I did ride today. I rode down to RL and did 1 and half loops then rode back. I LOVE mountain biking. It's so freakin fun i don't know why i don't do it more often. maybe because as far as ironman training is concerned you get little benefit from it. it's good for cross training every now and then but the risk of injury is higher and the workout is more anaerobic. I felt great on the ride today. i am amazed sometimes that a 287 lb guy can get around trees and sprint like i can. i should be thinner but my diet sux.

Diet: Stuff i ate this week that was bad. Bacon grease, whole milk, guacamole and chips, cheddar brats, egg nog french toast, chicken parm, fettuccine alfredo, candy canes, italian bmt, pink glazed donuts, garlic knots (evil garlic bread like rolls), lemonheads, whoppers. Next week i am dedicated to planning my breakfast every morning. I will let you know what i eat for breakfast everyday. I am planning on soy sausage, whole wheat toast, 1 whole egg, 1 egg white with low fat cheese. this about 370 calories and was part of my meal plan from my dietitian.
Motivation: this week it was tough so i need some encouragement guys. My new job is taxing. working for a dot com is stressful but fun. we have deadlines that don't move so nights and weekends are expected if you're behind. yesterday, friday, i left at 7:45pm and ate lunch at my desk. so how do you make yourself get the gym at 8pm on a friday after a stressful day? i will look into working out before work if working late becomes a habit. Like i said any encouragement would be appreciated.

Still in Pain...
I think i really jacked something up with my back the other day. Right now it hurts just sitting in a chair. On a scale of 1-10 it's about a 3 so it's tolerable but i definately think i should take it easy on the running for a while. That being said i will start including my swim workouts next week.

I won't be replacing the runs with swims just adding in the swims where they need to be. tues thursday sunday were swim days before and they seem like good candidates now. i only did 2 swim workouts a week before and i think i will go back to that. one speed day and one endurance day with the third day there as a makeup day.

Baseline Stats...
Just to let you all know what my base mileage is starting off. The distance that i can do without hurting afterwards.
Swim: 1 mile. When i'm not in shape i can swim a mile in about 55 minutes and when i am in shape it takes me 45 mins. I my goal is to swim 2.4 in about 1:45 without too much trouble. I was going to swim today but my body is really tired and hurting (joint not muscle pain) so i will be resting as soon as i leave work tonight around 7pm. I promise by next saturday i will get my first swim in. u can hold me to it.
Bike: 40 miles. I can wake up and ride that distance anytime i like. in shape i can do it in 2:15 when i'm out of shape it takes me 3 hours. My goal is to do 112 in 6 hours this is about 19 mph. Doable but ambitious.
Run: [i dont have a base] maybe .25 mile. I am not and never have been a runner. My goal is to finish the run in 6 hours. about 4.3 mph. this is running about 5.0mph and walking 3.5 mph.
This sets me up for a sub 14 hour ironman. This is my goal if i finish in 15 hours or 17 hours (the max time limit) i will be happy. If i wanted to set a personal record i wouldn't be doing CDA i would be doing florida where it's flat.

someone anonymous posted a sarcastic comment about the bacon grease. The story was funny. Constructive comments are welcome but not putting your name on something like that will cause me to turn off anonymous posting altogether. And please be funny when you can. I have a 3 guesses as to who posted it. 1 person that did an ironman 2 that haven't and maybe never will. o Bottom line. the only reason i am sharing what i am doing is to journal my journey. this is MY journey. and there will always be things you can do better in anything you try. If you're waiting for me to be downing protein shakes and drinking egg whites you'll be waiting a long time. but my diet will become more sensible and you guys will have to see in what ways.

Directing you to the stats site for my workout info. Anyways, check out this last november for anyone questioning my ability to commit. If i have anything of note to add today i will but for now i'm done. If you got an email from me telling you about this blog that was because i wanted to share this journey of mine with you. And to those that have just come along for the ride i appreciate you guys too. Hope you all have a great day. and i hope my back recovers from the half mile pounding i put it through.

O Eight is Here...
"When are you doing the Ironman?" I was have been asked that question for over 2 years now. Ironman Coeur D'Alene 2008... has been my answer. Looking at the calendar and seeing that 2008 on there is scary because its heeerrree. It's crazy y'all. Ok, I will be doing the treadmill challenge after work today. I will be configuring my foot pod for my Polar so that i can post my accurate run stats online. so all i will be doing today is hitting the treadmill for about 30 minutes total.

tell me what you think about my workout calendar. can you understand it? alright time to go to work. stay tuned...
s: decided i won't start swimming until next week (things are crazy at work and its a short week) Maybe will go this weekend but i'm in no real hurry but no later than sometime next week.
b: after swimming is added i will look at more consistant cycling, cycling is my favorite sport and love riding outside so spin class and cold weather riding sux
r: .71 in 10 minutes, i needed to calibrate the foot pod so i had to jog .5 nonstop. that was painful on the joints so i need to watch it next time.

New Years Day Tradition...
I just want to wish everyone and their families a safe and Happy New Year. I spent my new years eve with my baby gurl watching movies. What you guys do?
Well i know today i won't be doing anything special as far as training or diet. On new years my breakfast tradition is get up and fry some bacon and make eggs and egg nog french toast. For dinner I save the bacon fat and use it to make my black eyed peas and corn bread. Bacon fat just makes everything mo' betta' Eggs, corbread, beans, sex (howd that in there), french toast... you know, everything. Did you know Bacon Grease is a staple of all Kosher and vegan cooking? What do you think they flavor those soy burgers with? Bacon Grease Mmm Mmm Mmm :-) don't worry Mo i'll save you some.
Not healthy just good tasting. I will get a weight today so i can start the new year off with an accurate starting point. New accountability measures will be added this evening so stay tuned...
